Rollinsford Public Library Donation Policy

The Rollinsford Public Library appreciates the donation of books, DVD/ BluRays and audio books that meet the Library’s conditions of acceptance. Please carefully check that items you wish to donate meet these conditions before you bring them to the library.


While we are grateful for all of the kind donations made to the Library, due to space and staffing constraints, we are forced to now be more selective about the items we can accept as donations.

We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your support of the Library!

The Library will accept the following items:

  • Hardcover and trade paperback fiction and non-fiction in excellent to very good condition that has been published within the last 5 years.

  • Trade or mass-market paperback fiction and non-fiction in excellent to very good condition that has been published within the last 5 years.

  • Children’s books in clean excellent to very good condition with no markings, stains, tears, or other damage

  • Audio books, with all disks and in the original box, that has been published with the last 5 years

  • BluRays and DVDs in proper cases and in excellent condition, with no scratches

The Library will not accept the following items:

  • Any material (regardless of age) with an odor, mold, dirt, water damage, yellowing, missing parts or pages, or damage of any kind

  • Reader’s Digest Condensed Books

  • Magazines older than two years from the current date

  • Encyclopedias

  • Puzzles

  • Cassettes, VHS tapes, computer software, video games

*Donations will only be accepted during library operating hours. We respectfully ask that no more than one box (or bag) of materials of a reasonable weight be donated per drop off. Larger donations or donations of items not listed above will be accepted only if previously arranged with the library.

*Please do not leave donations in the hallway, on the shelves in the hallway, in the doorway, in the book sale or in the book drop. Items left outside of the library’s hours of operation will not be considered and will be thrown away.

*The Library retains the right to accept or refuse any donations offered to the Library. This may include but is not limited to furnishings, artwork, computers, other equipment, books, visual and audio material and children’s toys. The Library will only accept those items that will serve a useful purpose in the Library. The Library reserves the right to dispose of any donated items as the Library sees fit. 

*Donations to the Library can be tax-deductible. Donation receipts are available upon request. The Library will not provide a monetary appraisal or any estimate of the worth of donated material.
